The Red and Tortie ones This is Zirak, one of the kittens from Sunflower's first litter (five - sired by Shantai Nimrod, Seal Point) He is seen here playing in the bath, June 1971.
| Among the six kittens in Sunflower's second litter were Celeborn (Red Point male) and Celebrian (Chocolate Tortie Point female). Their sire was Hazelwood Apollo, Chocolate Point. They are seven months old in this photo. Working upwards, she had seven in her third litter. | ||
| For her fourth litter, Sunflower was mated to Champion Asuni Aoi Hosi, a Blue Point. She excelled herself by producing and rearing nine kittens - seen in the photo on the left with Poon, Celebrian and the rest of the gang. The litter included Galadriel, Blue Tortie Point, seen above right at just over two years old. (Behind her is her little half-sister, of whom more later.) | ||
| This is Sunflower in October 1975, demonstrating her healthy lifestyle. | ||
| Litter six, sired by Sislinki Tamil and born in 1974, included Palantir Laurelin, a Seal Tortie Point. | ||
| Litter eight, born in October 1975, was sired by Champion Coombehurst Highwayman, a Red Point. It included Champion Palantir Mallorn, pictured here just before her 11th birthday. When Mallorn was first shown, Cream Points did not have championship status. They were granted this in June 1977 and Mallorn became the third Cream Point Champion. | ||
| Mallorn was mated to Champion Nikky's Red Enka, a Cream Point, and produced Champion Palantir Nenya, born in April 1977. | ||
Nenya's first litter, born in June 1978, was to Champion Coromandel Blue Beau, a Blue Point. There were five Blue Tortie Point females of whom I kept Champion Palantir Silvertine, left (how's that for a profile!) and Grand Premier Palantir Sirannon, right. This is a picture from the local paper when Sirannon did well at a local show.
| The mating was so successful that I repeated it and got Champion and Premier Palantir Tom Bombadil. Here he is a year old. | ||
| This is Tom again at three - after he had been neutered. | ||
| This is Sunflower with daughter Mallorn, grand-daughter Nenya, and great-grand-daughter Silvertine. She might not have been the best type in the world, but she had a super temperament and was a superb breeding queen. She had twelve litters - a total of 86 kittens. | ||
| Sunflower's last litter was born when she was eight and a half years old. I had not really wanted to mate her again, but she just kept calling, so I took her to stud with Sayonara Champagne Fizz, a Chocolate Point belonging to Glenda Worthy, just up the road. It was pouring with rain so Glenda made the drinks while I took Sunflower down to the stud house. Once out of the basket, she had a look round and popped her head out of the cat flap - he grabbed her - she glanced round as if to say 'You carry on, I'm just checking the weather' - so he did. There were six kittens and she reared them all - but she never called again. She died in October 1984, aged 15 years, 6 months. | ||
