My first litter
Bella was mated to Shantai Nimrod, Seal Point, and the first Palantir litter was born on 7th October 1970 - one Seal Point male, two Chocolate Point males and two Chocolate Point females. (Mind you, they were very dark Chocs, just like uncle Poon). Bella was a good mother and, after insisting on having them under the table, settled down well in their converted drawer bed.

| This is the kittens in November 1970. The tree was home-made from a real tree branch with added shelves, covered in carpet samples. The bunches of pheasant feathers were popular toys. The tree was remarkably robust - it was anchored to the wall at the top to prevent it falling over under the weight of cats. Thirty years ago you couldn't buy the vast variety of feline exercise centres that you can get today, so this was actually 'super-tree'. |
| Here are Arwen (left) and Anarion (right) after their first and only show - the Southern Counties Cat Club Show on 28th January 1971 (a Wednesday!). Those of you bewail how much the breed has changed may say they look just how you remember Siamese from your youth - but they were not good examples even then. They were pet-type kittens and were sold as pets a week or so later. In their Open class (Chocolate Point 3 - 5 months, judged by Mrs Eileen Lentaigne) Anarion's VHC was for coming 5th out of 7, and Arwen, with Commended, was 7th. His Commended was for being equal 8th of 15 in the AOC Breeders class and her Second was out of one (!) in the Debutante Female class, with first place withheld. They were unplaced in their three other classes..... so yes, Siamese did look like this, but not the show winners!!! |
